Sarah (Sally) Ellen Kleier Summers was born in Louisville, Kentucky on October 2, 1937 to Edward Lawrence Kleier and Gertrude (Gert) Pike Kleier. The family moved to Bakersfield, California in 1949. Sally passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 21, 2021, two weeks after the passing of her beloved husband, of 64 years, Paul Dan Summers.
Sally was a wonderful, Wife, Mother, Grandmother (Nana) and Great Grandmother. To know her was to love her. She loved to celebrate and decorate for all holidays with her family and friends. Sally loved to play golf, bridge and sew. She was an extraordinary piano player and loved to play for anyone who would ask. During her time at the Village at Seven Oaks, she was definitely known for her sunny, sweet disposition, but also the queen of “Movie Night”. She loved to go to the theatre room and watch movies on the big screen. She quickly had the one night a week movie night changed to seven nights a week, even if she was the only one in there.
Sally was a proud 1955 graduate of Garces Memorial High School. This is where she met and fell in love with Paul. He was the handsome football player and she was the beautiful cheerleader. Later on when her children attended Garces, she worked tirelessly on the Garces Gala.
She was also a lifetime member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary where she spent countless hours volunteering. Sally also was a past President of the women’s organization at Bakersfield Country Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Edward (Larry) Lawrence Kleier, Jr., and husband, Paul Dan Summers. She is survived by daughter, Cindy Anspach (Tom), Scott Summers (Sherry), Patrick Summers (Carolyn), Christie Reed (Walt), 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank, The Village at Seven Oaks Assisted Living and Hoffmann Hospice for the wonderful, loving, care they gave Sally. She loved all of you just as much as you loved her.
Funeral services for Paul and Sally will be held at a later date due to the current gathering restrictions.
In lieu of flowers for both Paul and Sally the family would like to request donations be made to either Garces Memorial High School or the Kern County Superintendent of Schools, Camp KEEP. It was there that a great deal of family time was spent and wonderful memories made.
