With great sorrow we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Eugene Crowe on September 7, 2021. He was 87 years old.
Bob was born on September 16, 1933 in Gravette, Arkansas and spent his early years moving back and forth between Arkansas and California. After graduating from Kern High School, he served in the United States Army for three years and then worked as a welder and car mechanic. Bob loved building race car engines, and in 1960 he was featured in Hot Rod Magazine.
In 1968 Bob moved on to work as a mechanic for the Bakersfield Fire Department, where he promoted to a Firefighter in 1970. He quickly rose in rank to Engineer in 1975 and Captain in 1978. Bob retired from the Fire Department in 1986.
Beloved by all who knew him, Bob was a talented and wonderful man who was always there for his daughters and friends. From cars and bicycles to sprinklers and air conditioners, if something needed fixing around the house or yard he would always be there. Bob was also an avid fisherman and hunter and he loved sharing these hobbies with his dear friend Dyrel “Doc” Faulstick.
Bob is survived by his wife, Peggy Lynn; his children, Pamela Bowen and her husband Don, Karen Grimm, and Laura Houchin and her husband Steve; stepdaughter Sherri Henson and her husband Mike; grandchildren Landon Wright, Brian Wright, Darren Wright, Steven Houchin, Nicholas Houchin and his wife Emily, and Andie Grimm; and six great grandchildren.
