1951 - 2022
Roy was born on November 24, 1951 in San Angelo, Texas and passed away in Bakersfield on January 31, 2022. He was raised in Arvin, California and attended Arvin High School. In 1971 Roy was drafted to the U.S. Army, serving as a Military Police. He was stationed in Germany and Hawai’i where he and his wife Diane Medina had their first daughter, Micaella. In 1973 Roy’s service with the Army was complete with an honorable discharge. Roy and Diane settled down in Bakersfield, CA and had two more daughters, Marisa and Sara.  

Roy is preceded in death by his parents,  Anastasio and Alicia Medina, and his nephew Luis Hernandez. He is survived by his daughters, Micaella Placencia (Garey), Marisa Medina (Sean Barger), and Sara; grandchildren Therese Avalos, Thomas Avalos, Ian Barger, Cody Barger, Lilliann Barger, Rocco Shears, Lucas Barger, and step-grandchild Garey Placencia; nine brothers and sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Roy had a passion for music and was very talented at playing the congas for his band. He was an amazing artist who loved to draw for his daughters and grandchildren. Roy will be deeply missed by his family. 
On Tuesday February 15, 2022 a visitaiton will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 pm, with recitation of the rosary at 6:00 p.m.. at Doughty Calhoun O’Meara Funeral Home (1100 Truxtun). Catholic mass will follow on Wednesday February 16, 2022 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (124 Columbus). Graveside service to follow at 12:30 pm at Bakersfield National Cemetery (30338 Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin, CA).
