Patricia Ann Byrne February 13, 1944 - May 31, 2021
Pat was born in rural Kansas on February 13, 1944, the second of four children born to Doris and Norman K. Luttrell. The family moved to Inyokern, CA in 1948 and to Bakersfield, CA in time for the 1952 earthquake. After attending local schools, Sierra Jr. High School and East Bakersfield High School, Pat was married to Bob Addington from 1961-1971 and had two children: Denise and David. Pat worked for KERN radio in the Elks building at 17th & Eye St. and then on Wible Road before Valley Plaza was built on the site. She then worked for Continental Telephone in their corporate offices on Norris Road. In 1973 Pat found and married the love of her life, a Navy man, Robert “Bob” Byrne, and welcomed his three children, Mike, Kathy, and Leslie to complete her family. The new family established itself in Nashua, NH. For many years Pat was a full-time mother, her most rewarding and most difficult job. When the family relocated to Ridgecrest, CA Pat worked as a resource analyst for Kerr-McGee Chemical CO (“Such fun”-her words). She returned to school full time and in 1988 received a bachelor’s degree as a computer scientist. Pat entered the Navy civilian workforce for the rest of her career supporting NAVAIR, SPAWAR and the CNO. In over 47 years of marriage Bob & Pat lived in Nashua, NH; Ridgecrest, CA; Arlington, VA; Charleston, SC; Coronado, CA; and San Diego, CA. Following her retirement in 2002, she and Bob moved to Bakersfield where she loved decorating their home and hosting gatherings for family and friends. Pat was also an active member of the Assistance League of Bakersfield. A highlight of her year was hosting her family for the Navy/Army football games. Pat was predeceased by her parents, and her granddaughter, Angela Addington. She is survived by her husband, Bob Byrne; her five children, Denise Addington, David Addington (Kelly), Mike Byrne (Delores), Kathy Cook, and Leslie Barkman (John); her two sisters, Janice Holder and Norma McDonald (Curtis) and her brother John Luttrell (Marian). Pat also leaves 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. The family wishes to thank all of those that befriended Pat and her family through the years and those especially that were with her most recently. Special thanks go to Dr. William Baker and his staff, and the staff of Mercy Hospital. The family requests that instead of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory be sent to Assistance League of Bakersfield, P.O. Box 2286, Bakersfield, CA 93303. Mass of Christian Burial will be held June 28, 2021 at 10 AM at St. Francis of Assisi church, 800 H Street with a Rosary at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at 12:30 PM at the Bakersfield National Cemetery.
