Mark Thomas Anspach

Mark Thomas Anspach, 62, passed away on September 7, 2024, in Bakersfield, CA. Born on September 18, 1961, in Bakersfield, CA, he was a lifelong resident and a pillar in his community.

Mark graduated from Garces Memorial High School in 1980 and furthered his education at Cuesta College and the College of Mortuary Science. He dedicated 37 years to serving the Catholic, Basque, and Bakersfield communities through their grief. Initially, he was a third-generation co-owner of Hopson-Anspach Mortuary, followed by over a decade at Greenlawn Mortuary as a director and manager. In retirement, he worked alongside his wife, Susan, at their dry-erase paint company, cherishing his time in the warehouse.

While Mark was very private in his faith, there is no doubt he had a relationship with our Lord & Savior. He often attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church & would occasionally visit the churches where his children & wife practice their faiths. Mark balanced his life with several diverse hobbies. He enjoyed golfing with friends, and taking long walks with his beloved dog, Beth, and was an avid fan of country music, particularly the tunes of Tracy Lawrence, Kenny Rogers, and Conway Twitty. Mark's greatest joy was hosting family dinners, where he showcased his culinary skills with BBQ and an array of kitchen gadgets discovered during late-night QVC sessions.

Mark is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Kristin and her husband Matt Digirolamo, Kasey and her husband Sean Lozano, Justin and his wife Kendra Anspach, and Jayse and his wife Zeina Anspach; 14 grandchildren, Haley, Kaeden, Greyson, Colby, Rhett, Reid, Graham, Heath, Koa, Desmond, Elaine, one on the way, Lauren, and Sam; his mother, Patricia Anspach; and siblings, Mike Anspach and family, Teresa Raynal and family, and Chris Anspach and family. His life was enriched by his dog, Beth. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Anspach.

Mark's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him as a compassionate, funny, caring, and lovable individual, deeply committed to both his family and community.

Mark did his time wearing a suit & tie, he would hate to leave here in one. In honor of his love of Maui, please feel free to wear a Hawaiian shirt.
