November 5th 1932- March 30th 2025
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Luis Zanini: beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and child of God on March 30th 2025 at 3:20AM during the hour of Divine Mercy. Luis was a devoted spouse to Jane Zanini and father to Maria Monica, Gerardo, Gustavo, Virginia, Marie and Karen. He had 14 grandchildren and a growing number of great grandchildren as well. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and friends.
Luis Zanini was born on November 5th 1932 to Domingo Carlos Zanini and Luisa Lezcano in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Luis studied at Universidad Nacional de La Plata and received an electrical and mechanical engineering degree in 1957. Luis married Jane on July 12th of 1958 and they began their family soon after. Their first born child, Maria Monica, passed away at 4 months old and they continued to grow their family in the midst of this devastating loss. He came to America on a work visa to find work and settled in the Los Angeles area. He moved his wife, and children Gerardo, Gustavo, Virginia and Marie from Buenos Aires, Argentina in early 1968. His youngest daughter, Karen, was born in the states soon after they settled here and Luis continued to work hard as an engineer to bring his family opportunities and freedom to worship in this new country he called home.
He lived a life dedicated to family, virtue, faith and hard work. With the help of Jane, he became more involved and more devoted to his faith as his children grew up. His children remember his love of nature, the stars and his spontaneous camping trips. They remember that he took them to races, boxing and wrestling matches, sporting events and to the beach. They remember the experiences of new cuisines and were so grateful for the exposure to new experiences.
He loved hosting holiday gatherings with his growing family and always enjoyed teaching his grandchildren a new puzzle or math game in between meals and swimming at their home in Sylmar, California. After retiring, he had more time to volunteer for various charities such as MEND (Meet Each Need with Dignity) and the Veteren’s Hospital where he dedicated time to help those in need. He especially loved supporting Relevant Radio, EWTN, Ave Maria University and his local parishes and ministries. He also spent most of his free time tinkering in his garage, listening to classical music, reading mystery novels or watching a futbol match.
He moved to Bakersfield, California in 2020 and spent his final days in the care of hospice at Brookdale Senior Living. He was taken care of by many at the end and his passing has left an impact on his family and the many people who had the privilege of meeting him.
Luis' life was a testament to determination and strength of mind and spirit. He faced life's challenges with courage and always provided for his family. May he rest in the peace of Christ forever, and may the Holy Spirit fill you with strength and peace at this time.
