Kathleen Louise Dyer

In Loving Memory of Kathy Dyer, 1959-2025

Kathleen Louise Dyer (née Moon), of Bakersfield, California, passed away on Friday, January 24th 2025 after a long and arduous journey with early-onset Alzheimer’s. She was 65 years old. Born 7/10/1959 on Scott Air Force Base in Illinois to parents James and Clara Moon, and the youngest of five children, Kathy grew from a scrappy little girl into a bright and bold young woman who moved to the Echo Park neighborhood in Los Angeles, California at the age of 18.

After graduating from L.I.F.E. Bible College in 1981, Kathy became an ordained pastor and soon met the love of her life, Eric Dyer. Their first date involved the two of them singing together with Kathy accompanying on piano- something she loved to do since she was young and continued to enjoy as long as she was able. She was proud to accompany loved ones and multiple groups, including the Highland High Schools choirs, and loved teaching church history for Summit Bible College.

Kathy had a beautiful voice, which she never hesitated to use singing with family and friends, or advocating for the people, causes, and faith she devoutly believed in. Whether preparing elaborate afternoon tea for her daughters to greet them after school, or writing the local paper about endangered natural habitats for animals like the burrowing owl, Kathy shared her generous, open, and creative heart with everyone who came into her orbit.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Eric Dyer, her daughters Ariel and Eliza, her grandchildren Theodore and Tallulah Dyer Smith, and her siblings Daniel Moon and Lavella Denison. She is joyously welcomed into heaven by those who preceded her in death: her father James Moon, her mother Clara Moon, and her siblings David and Gay Moon.

The family invites you to a service celebrating Kathy’s life and reception to follow at Northminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 1st at 10am.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the California Living Museum or the Alzheimer’s Disease Association of Kern County.

“Don’t adventures ever have an end? I suppose not. Someone else always has to carry on the story.”
