John Joseph Petura

John Joseph Petura, our loving brother and uncle, was called to his heavenly home on March 18, 2021 at the age of 76. He was the youngest of seven children born to Frank and Bessie Petura on January 2, 1945 in San Bernardino, California. His life served as a wonderful testimony to his love of Jesus Christ and of others. His passion for reading the Bible was evident in his well-studied, multi-colored marked Bible and his Christ-centered speech. His earliest years were spent in San Bernardino, then Greenfield, California. He also lived in Wenatchee, Washington. The last years of his life were spent in Shafter, where he attended Shafter Christian Fellowship, Church of Christ Outreach Fellowship, and Celebrate Recovery. He had many wonderful church friends and many wonderful friends at the Shafter Senior Manor, the senior apartment complex where he lived. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Petura (Maudeen), his sister, Priscilla Ahrens (Wilbur), his sister Dorothy Berry (Happy), his sister, Opal Francis Brown, his sister, Mary Edwards (Al), and his brother in law, Ken Mc Millan. He is survived by his sister, Audrey Mc Millan and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at the Historic Union Cemetery, 705 Potomac Ave., Bakersfield, California, 93307 at 10 am on Friday, March 26, 2021. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 7:30 PM on March 25, 2021, at Doughty-Calhoun-O’Meara, 1100 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, California, 93301.
