Joe Dino Romanini was born on August 1, 1941, to Dino and Quintelia Romanini. He passed away on January 28, 2025. The time between these 2 dates encompass a life rich with family, friendships, and countless cherished experiences and blessings.
Joe is survived by his wife, Anna Romanini; his brother, Robert Romanini (Joyce); his daughters, Bettina Kinsman (Rob) and Joanna Piercy (John); and his three grandsons, Joe, Brendan, and Evan. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins, both in the U.S. and in Lucca, Italy. Joe attended Buttonwillow School, Shafter High School, and Bakersfield College before earning his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business from Fresno State. During his university years, he was an avid team roper, competing atop his cherished horse, Jake. Joe spent years in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he worked as Military Police and learned to cook for large crowds in the mess hall—skills he would carry with him throughout his life.
After his service, Joe returned home to farm alongside his brother Robert, pursued his passion for catering with his best friend Gary Riccomini and cousin Richard Romanini, and spent decades with the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, eventually retiring as a Reserve Deputy after inspiring both of his nephews Andrew Romanini (Tesha) and William Romanini (Carrera) to become law-enforcement officers. Joe spent the last few decades dedicating himself to restoring tractors and his custom big rig with his close friend Peter Bloom. He was an active member of the South Valley Farm Antiques Branch 209 and took great pride in driving his tractors in farm shows. A gifted cook, he prepared meals for the Italian Heritage Dante Hall and countless other events and celebrations.
Joe was known for his unwavering dedication to family and friends. He never missed a chance to call, visit, and spend time with those he loved. He was always ready to lend a hand and always present when needed: Joe embodied the true meaning of generosity and love. His three grandsons were his greatest joy, and he delighted in hearing about their adventures, reminding everyone to make time for life beyond work. He often talked of his last visit to Italy in 2018, our recent family trip to Sonoma to visit cousins, and the cruises we recently took together. He loved so big and was loved bigger. At the time of his death, we believe he was the oldest living Romanini in the world. His loss leaves an immeasurable void, but we find comfort in Jesus, our collective faith and the memories that will live on in us.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 20th at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
