Jack Duane Keown passed away peacefully at home with his family on Sept. 24th at the age of 89. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We will miss him dearly. Jack was born in Elgin, Oregon. Jack is preceded in death by his parents John Archibald Keown and Fern Ada Brannum.
Jack served with the U.S. Coast guard from 1951-1954.
In 1956, Jack established Superior Sanitation Services. Starting as a one man one truck operation he developed and enjoyed running a successful business. From the beginning his employees meant the world to him and their loyalty over the years was proof of their mutual respect. Jack was one of the founding members of Kern Refuse Association and served as President for numerous years.
Later in 1956, he married MaryAnn Bertolucci. Together they ran their business out of their home with MaryAnn doing the books while Jack ran the routes.
Family was incredibly important to Jack and MaryAnn. Together they took their family on countless trips water skiing, snow skiing, and houseboating. Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and close friends. Jack always looked forward to his round of golf with his buddies and Friday poker group. Jack and MaryAnn developed many close friendships when square dancing with the Joaquin Squares. Together they enjoyed traveling and Jacks favorite was his yearly trip to the Rogue River to fish for Salmon. Having his family over for a BBQ was his ideal way of spending time with the entire family! Jack wanted everyone to remember him at 4:00 which was his time for his favorite margarita. Cheers Jack!
In lieu of flowers Jack would like donations made to your favorite charity.
He is survived by MaryAnn, his wife of 65 years and their family Bruce (Janey) Keown, Russell (Angie) Keown, Clint Keown, Denise Keown, Nancy (Keith) Peters, Gina Young, Vincent Young, and Grant Rogers.
