Gail entered this world on August 8, 1939, in North Platte, Nebraska, and moved to San Diego, CA as a child. She was the only child born to Jack and Roberta Jones. She quickly became her parents’ pride and joy. Influenced by her dad’s swimming and diving skills and his role as an alternate Olympic diver, “Kid”, as her dad called her, was an avid sports fan. She and her dad attended many professional golf tournaments, and track and field events at the L.A. Coliseum. She proudly shared that she was the first female high school track and field team manager in southern California.
Living as a young woman in San Diego, it was not surprising that she became a military wife. Soon after, she welcomed son Mark, daughter Janae, and son Kyle to their family. She took great pride in her role as a U.S. military wife and was a true patriot.
She was a devoted mother, adapting to life wherever the military took them. She was active in her children’s schools and sports teams, often volunteering to be class or team mom. She loved the kids’ friends and was looked at as mom to all of them. Even to her death, she remained “mom” to many of the boys.
Gail always enjoyed her social life, and spending time with friends. She was a bowler, bowling on a team for several years. In her later years you could find Gail playing cards or cribbage at some of her favorite hang outs.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lt. Commander Ronald Buntley, longtime partner Willie Kofahl, and ex-husband, Sergeant Major Joseph Ryan. She is survived by sons Mark (Jody) Ryan, Kyle (Jill) Buntley, and daughter Janae Spinka, and special daughter Lisa Kofahl York and family. She is also survived by grandchildren Jade (Alex)McClure, Jarrett Buntley, Ryan Buntley, Christopher LaFe, Mallory (Kevin) Secky, Hunter (Justina) Haley and great granddaughter Molly McClure.
No services are scheduled. As per Gail’s wishes, her final resting place will be next to husband Ron at the Booneville cemetery in Fayetteville, TN. In lieu of flowers, please remember Gail with a donation to American Legion Post 0682, or your preferred military related organization.
