Dean E. Jones passed away at Arcadia Gardens Residential Care, in Bakersfield, CA, the morning of October 22, 2019. The second of four children, Dean was born in Alliance, Nebraska April 4, 1924 to Albert and Amanda Jones. He graduated from Agnes Academy in June of 1942 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps October 1, 1942. He was a proud veteran of World War II, as a Tech Sargent stationed on Midway Island from September 14, 1943 to April 23, 1945. While stationed on Midway he ran the Non-Commissioned Officers Club and because of his Rifle Expert Classification, also trained the Seabees to handle firearms on a makeshift gunnery range. Training of the Seabees was necessary because initially they were sent to theaters of war before they were trained in self-defense.
Upon leaving the service January 12, 1946, he pursued his college education by taking advantage of the GI Bill. He attended Pasadena City College and earned his AA January 13, 1948. Then he went on to earn his Bachelors of Science Degree in business at the University of Southern California, January 25, 1950. His working career spanned across a few companies like Ben Hur, Hermetic Seal, but his longest stint was at National Cash Register (NCR) where he served as Division Controller.
Dean married Charlotte I. Meidell in 1947. Divorce followed shortly in 1950 but in March of 1954 he married Ima Daniels. This marriage lasted over 50 years until Ima passed away on Christmas 2005. Their life together was filled with trips within the United States but highlighted by their retirement home near Pine Flat Lake, just outside Fresno, California. There they pursued boating, fishing, hunting, gardening, and large family gatherings throughout the year.
Dean was pre-deceased by his parents, his two sisters, Dorothy Heinlein, Catherine Anderson, his brother Richard Jones, and great grandsons Jaxen and Maddox Hudgins. Surviving Dean are his daughter Sheila Spears, his son Charles Jones, 9 grandchildren: Kelley Rees, Donovan Rees, Athena Kaylor, Aaron Ward, Sean Ward, Adrienne Ward,Travis Jones, Heather Hudgins, and Brittney Bingham; 8 great grandchildren: Anthony Jones, Haley Jones, Benjamin Bingham, Spencer Bingham, Brandy Purdy, Kayla Berwager, Joshua Rees, and Faith Rees, and 1 great, great grandchild Jacksyn Berwager.
Service will be a private graveside service at Sanger DelRey Cemetery District, Sanger California. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to donate to your favorite charity.
