Darren Settlemire

April 26, 1968 — August 27, 2021

Darren Lee Settlemire passed away on August 27, 2021, at the age of 53, in his hometown of Bakersfield, California. His battle with a serious medical issue in recent weeks showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Darren came out a hero and stayed strong until the very end.

As a child, Darren proclaimed that his goal was to become a United States Marine and to follow in the footsteps of his father and older brothers when he graduated high school. This dream was fulfilled when he graduated Foothill High School and was accepted into the Marine Corps where Darren served his country honorably and faithfully until his discharge from service in 1993.

After military service Darren wanted to continue to help those around him and he started his career as a Massage Therapist where he spent over 20 years helping his clients improve their quality of life and continued in this career until his death.

Darren was also a devoted Christian and practiced his faith in a manner that most would admired, and folks made comments to Darren’s friends and family that “Darren walks the walk” when it comes to his faith.

Darren is preceded in death by his father, Wiley D. Settlemire, and his younger brother Daniel Settlemire. He is survived by his mother Grace A. Brooks, brothers Dewayne Settlemire, Darrell Settlemire, sisters Jenise Colter and Michelle Brooks. He is also survived and loved by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Darren will be honored in a celebration of life on September 3, 2021 at 1pm at the New Covenant PCG in Oildale CA.
