December 13, 1937 - January 21, 2023 May 4, 1935 - January 27, 2023
Mary Brock passed from this life at age 85. Her beloved husband followed her 6 days later at age 87. Their shared desire was to pass together with Mary going first. And so, it was…….
Mary was born in Buffalo, Texas to William Lee Massengale and Lois Johnson Massengale. Harold was born in Farris, Oklahoma to Curtis Brock and Algia Henson Brock.
Mary’s family moved to Avenal, California where her father, William, built and operated cotton gins in the Central Valley. During the Dust Bowl days, when Harold was 7, his family moved to Avenal, California. They both attended schools in Avenal and were Avenal Buccaneers, yet they didn’t meet until Harold returned from the Korean War where he served as a Mechanical Specialist on aircraft carriers.
Harold loved to ride motorcycles, horses, and drive trucks. He drove trucks transporting all types of oilfield equipment, and then Petroleum transport. He retired from Arco June 1, 1989, then continued to drive for independent trucking companies until he was 80, later working as a crossing guard. He loved outdoor activities and living in the country. He was an avid 49er fan. They both loved watching football games with their children and friends. Mary worked for Bakersfield High School in the Faculty Cafeteria for 12 years and was proud to be an "Honorary Driller”. She loved to paint, watch pro football, play Canasta and was a serious Dallas Cowboy fan. She loved to sing and had a beautiful Alto voice. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Mary & Harold married March 18, 1958, lasting almost 65 years. They are survived by Harold’s sister Luene Brock Adams; their five children: Leanne, mother of 2 sons and 2 grandsons; Randy (Wife Donna), father of 5 children and 11 grandchildren: Joel, father of 6 children and 12 grandchildren; Jill, mother of 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren; Scott Brock, and many relatives and friends.
