Brian John Dunphy, 75 passed away May 19, 2023, He was born Feb 23, 1948, in Surrey county, England, the Son of Mary Ann Whitman and Joseph Dunphy. He emigrated to West Palm Beach, USA through Canada in the early 50’s. He graduated high school in 1966. At age 18 he traveled back to England to pursue a career as a British policeman. When he found that he was ineligible to go to the police academy because of his age he then served in the British Army until he became of age to serve as a policeman for 3 years in Warrington Borough, Lancashire, England.
A year later he traveled back to the USA via Canada where he had passport difficulties. At which point he had worked as a jailer in Toronto for a short time until his passport issues cleared up and landed some bit parts in American movies in Hollywood.
Brian then worked as a photographer and tour guide at Lion County Safari in Florida before he joined the USAF February 3, 1971, as a professional Military education instructor for 2 years 6 months, then Military training instructor for 2 years, then as an instructional systems Technician for 2 years 9 months and a law enforcement specialist for 3 years 9 months. He was honorably discharged as a TSgt 28 November 1982. He also was selected airman of the year at Myrtle Beach AFB, SC in 1975.
He had won a trophy at the Southwest Regional Speech Competition which qualified him to compete at the National Forensics Tournament in Kansas City, MO. There, he competed against the nation’s top collegiate speakers. Furthering his interest in communications. Brian then attended Glendale Community College, learning television communications.
Brian worked as a Correctional Officer for California Department of corrections and rehabilitation for 23 years before retiring in 2009 at Waco State prison.
Survived by Cyndi, stepson Anthony Alvarado, stepdaughter Briana Kaliterna and daughter Tami Lynn Dunphy with grandson Zackary Archuletta and great grandchildren Rueben, Layla, Eli, Zariah, Lilliana, and Danni Lynn.
Funeral services for Brian will at 1:15 p.m. on June 2nd at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd, Arvin, California.
