Bettye Ann Szeflin passed away peacefully at her home on April 5, 2025.

Bettye “Granny” was born on March 15, 1938, to Sylvan and Anna Leigh Beall in Abilene, Texas, the youngest of three children.

After graduation, Bettye went on to study at Hardin-Simmons University where she earned her degree and eventually began teaching business education.

Bettye met the love of her life, Ray Szeflin on a blind date while he was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene, Texas. They soon married and went on to have four children, Michael, David, Linda and Susan.

She was an avid reader, game enthusiast and loved education. She constantly encouraged and pursued knowledge. She was the faithful companion to Ray in all the many adventures they enjoyed during their 62 years of marriage.

Granny is survived by her children Michael, David, Linda, Susan, their spouses Jessica, Zarina, JJ, and her grandchildren, Lauren, Calen, Tara, Cheyenne, Ethan, Jacob.

Bettye was laid to rest on April 16, 2025, in the foothills of the Tehachapi mountains, at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, alongside her beloved husband. May they forever rest in peace.
