Life's slope is slippery. God's finger was on Arthur James Torrigiani as he guided him through a life that was dedicated to his wife Jane and his family. He was father to Candus and Timothy, grandfather to Lizbeth, Clayton, Morgan and Matthew and great grandfather to Sophia, Julia, Campbell, Amelia, Presley, Hayden, Harlow and Hollis and his reign lasted less than one week shy of 96 years. His life virtually brimmed with activities inclusive of, but not limited to, farming, hunting, fishing, golf, tennis, partying, fine cigars and playing cards. This unique man represents the closure of a special generation.
He was born and grew up in Buttonwillow, California to his Italian parents Algonte and Ranie. He attended elementary school in Buttonwillow travelling there by horse and buggy and then attended Kern County high school in Bakersfield. While there he met his life's love Jane Weston. At the age of 18 he was drafted into the army and spent 18 months in Korea as sergeant of a motor pool. His amazing mechanical abilities fittingly lead him to that position. While he was serving his country Jane's parents insisted that she only marry after she graduated from the University of Redlands. The happily smiling couple married on February 15th 1948 offering a promise of a great future.
Arthur was preceded in death by his son, wife, brother, and grandson. His true passion was his farming operation A.J. Torrigiani and Son at which he remained "hands on" as "THE BOSS!" to the very day of his passing on October 14, 2022. He retained the mind of a man half his age even as his body grew increasingly tired. On the morning of the fourteenth he fell asleep in his favorite recliner not to wake again. His daughter, Candus, was at his side.
