ALEJANDRO BERNAL

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Aita (Dad), Alejandro Bernal, who left us on December 10, 2024. Born on August 26, 1935, in Arizcun, Spain, to Fernando and Maria Miura Bernal, Alejandro moved to the United States in pursuit of his dreams and new opportunities. Upon his arrival, he began working for his uncle at Bernal Sheep Company and later became partners with his late brothers Francisco and Nicolas. The three brothers eventually formed a partnership at Bernal Farms, where they grew Alfalfa, Corn, Cotton, and Wheat, building a prosperous business together.

One of Alejandro's proudest accomplishments was achieving his long-held goal of becoming a U.S. Citizen, a milestone he treasured. He took great pride in being an American while also honoring his Basque heritage. He found great joy in participating in numerous Basque events at the Kern County Basque Club. One of his favorite pastimes was playing the Basque card game, mus, where he enjoyed both the company of his friends and the excitement of competing in mus tournaments at the club. Alejandro was also a lifetime honorary member of the Kern County Basque Club.

Alejandro is survived by his two devoted daughters, Ana Bernal and Mikela Oberg (Bryan), and his beloved grandchildren, Ethan and Rylee Oberg, whom he adored. He is also survived by his sister, Maria Carmen Bernal Zapata (Pedro), of Arizcun, Spain, his sister-in-law, Marlene Bernal, and numerous nieces and nephews.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Lupita for the compassionate care she provided to Aita and to Armando Carrillo, whose companionship he deeply valued. Additionally, Inca will miss Aita feeding her peanut butter with a spoon; the bond between them was truly special, and they adored each other.

Services will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 900 H Street, on Tuesday, December 17. There will be a recitation of the Rosary at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd.
